Day 1
Participants are picked up at their hotel in Reykjavik between 9 and 10 o'clock.
On the way to the Westfjords, we first stop in Borgarnes in the Settlement museum where two exhibitions are to be seen: the Settlement of Iceland and the Saga of Egill Skallagrimsson.
Then we have lunch in the museum's restaurant.
Next stop is Borgarfjordur where we visit Deildartunguhver, the biggest geothermal spring in the world by volume.
We go afterward to the waterfall Hraunfossar and Barnafoss where the river flows out of a lava field. To reach the waterfall, we drive through Reykholt and the thermal spring where the author Snorri Sturtluson was bathing in the 13th century.
We then continue to the Westfjords and to Heydalur, crossing 4 mountains and enjoying the stunning landscapes. Sometimes we'll be driving through impressive snowstorms.
In the evening, the guests enjoy a three-course dinner with the family and afterwards have the option of bathing in the hot pool or relaxing in the thermal springs.
Finally, we look for the northern lights at the end of the evening, and the next three evenings as well.
Days 2 to 4
The program during the next three days depends on the weather, the period of the year and the desires of our guests.
We normally go hiking to Drangajökull glacier or with snowshoes in Heydalur's valley, depending on the weather.
One day is spent on ice fishing in a mountain lake and visiting the surroundings: the Salt factory in Reykjanes, the old viking ruins in Vatnsfjördur and our private troll Þrandur is to be seen on the way.
In the autumn, ice fishing is typically replaced by sea kayaking in the fjord or a horse riding tour along the river.
Finally, we spend one day driving to and visiting Ísafjördur, the capital of the Westfjords. Along the way we will tell local stories and offered opportunities for photo stops: in Hvítanes to observe the seal colony and to enjoy the view over Isafjardardjup bay from Kambsnes.
In Ísafjördur we take a guided visit to the town church, the library, the old houses and the oldest parts of the town.
We take our guests to the skiing area for a great view over the town, then to Ósvör museum where you can see how Icelandic fishermen used to live during wintertime.
On the way back, we make a stop at the Arctic fox museum in Sudavik and in Litli Bær for delicious waffles & tea and the opportunity to meet local people.
Day 5
On the last day we head back to Reykjavik around 10 o'clock a.m.
We stop at the Witchcraft museum in Hólmavik and usually arrive in Reykjavik around 4 o'clock p.m.
