The tour leaves from the information center in Patreksfjörður. You will be transfered by bus to Melanaes farm at Rauðasandur. Alternatively, you can also meet directly at Melanes for the tour.
At Melanes, you will hop on a tractor carriage, and go an isolated seal colony nearby. The exact location of the seal colony is kept as a local secret, in order to preserve wildlife and keep this tour as an offbeat, small group experience.
There will be ample photo opportunities. There are more than 100 seals in the herd. In early spring, mothers lie on the sand with their young cub, while later in the summer you can observe the cubs taking their first steps into adulthood.
After the tour, you will be transported back to Patreksfjörður.
Departure time may change from day to day, as it is tied to the tide schedule. We cross an intertidal area, and can only pass the waters at lower tide. You can see the departure hour and will receive more information upon booking.
We depart from Patreksfjorður and go to Melanes farm at Rauðasandur.
From Melanes, we embark on a tractor carriage with our expert guide and a local farmer along the beach to the seal colony, where you can see the seals up close. The exact location of the seal colony on this 10-km long beach is kept as a local secret, and we go carefully as we try not to disturb the wild animals. You will have excellent photo opportunities on this trip.
After the tour, we return from Melanes to Patreksfjörður.
