Private: Svalvogar Peninsula

PRIVATE TOUR
Starting from:
 Isafjordur, Thingeyri*
Season: 16th Jun-15th Sep
Duration: 7 or 9 hours
Difficulty: 2/5-3/5
Min/Max: 1-8 participants

This thrilling super jeep safari is one of Iceland's ultimate off the beaten path adventures, and exclusively available as a private tour!

We follow the rugged shoreline trail around the Svalvogar peninsula. Characterised by sharp cliffs and intimidating mountains, inspiring fjord views and surf battered beaches, colourful rocks and ancient volcanic layers, silent creeks and haunted valleys, rich birdlife and diverse vegetation; the Svalvogar trail offers an unforgettable experience.

*Note that from Thingeyri the tour takes about 1.5 hours less time, if you are travelling in a rental car and passing by Thingeyri then we recommend this option to save you the full drive from Isafjordur.

The trail is only 50 km but very slow going and we'll take about 4 hours to make our way around it. As we bump along & under the cliffs and steep mountains, you'll have the option of walking a part of the trail in addition to frequent stops to enjoy the surroundings. Expect to see a large variety of birds and vegetation along with starkling cliffs and rock formations.

Seals, arctic foxes and whales have all been seen occasionally on this tour and free roaming sheep are usually there to cheer us up as well! Early in the summer one can see seasonal waterfalls and beautiful lupine fields, later in the summer the autumn colours start blossoming and delicious wild growing bilberries become ripe for picking.

Please note that no rental car vehicle has valid insurance for the full Svalvogar circle and the trail can be treacherous and scary for first-timers. Therefore we strongly dissuade self-drive travellers from attempting to drive it on their own.

You can request any starting time you like and can even keep it somewhat flexible for you in order to make the most of the weather, tides and sunset (Svalvogar looks great in the midnight sun).

You can make this tour even more exciting by upgrading to 9 hours, which will give you time for one of the following add-ons:
- An easy hiking stop at the majestic Dynjandi waterfall
- A guided mountain trek up to Kaldbakur peak (998m), the highest mountain in the Westfjords
- More time to relax and enjoy the trail, walk for extended parts on your own etc.

Included:

- Private super jeep tour, option of English/German/Icelandic speaking local driver guide
- Pickup and dropoff in Isafjordur town or airport

To bring:
