Season: 1st Jul-31st Aug
Duration: 7-8 hours
Difficulty: 4/5
Minimum age: 13 years old
Min: 2 pax
Max: 8 pax

This is an exceptionally scenic and exciting mountain day hike, combined with our super minivan transfer up to the trail starting point. Kaldbakur is the highest mountain peak of the Westfjords at 998m, offering spectacular views over the entire peninsula.

The tour departs from Isafjordur on our super minivan, and it's also possible to be picked up in or anywhere along the way to Thingeyri. From Thingeyri we take the rough jeep trail into the valley of Kirkjubolsdalur, making our way up to about 400m altitude at the scenic Alftamyrarheidi mountain pass, from where we start our hike up to Kaldbakur.

The hike to the top takes about 3-4 hours and is suitable for hikers in good physical shape. The trail is steadily ascending all the way up, with some zig-zagging near the top past colourful geological formations. The view from the top of Kaldbakur on a clear day is incredible: Terrifying mountains and deep valleys surround the peak on all sides, beyond which you are treated to stunning fjord views and a glimpse of the golden beaches of Ketildalir. And in the further distance one can often see over most of the northern Westfjords, the entire Glama highlands and the southern Westfjords - even as far as the Snaefellsjokull glacier.

Included:

- Guided hike to the top of Kaldbakur
- Super minivan transfer to the Alftamyrarheidi base at approx. 400m
